Stevens nabs pair of top-10 results at Vado
Tyler Stevens closed out last season strong with wins in his final two events. Now, he’s off to a solid start in 2024 after posting two consecutive ninth-places finishes on the opening weekend of the 18th annual Rio Grande West Services Wild West Shootout at Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park. Impressively, this year marks his first time participating in the program.
Stevens' Keith Hammett Trucking & Construction No. 2 Super Late Model was one of 44 in the class at the 3/8-mile track when racing action got underway on Saturday. Stevens opened the event by qualifying second in his group and winning his heat race from the pole. He hoped to make a change for the feature, but faced some issues and ran out of time before the 40-lap, $11,000-to-win race began. Stevens started fourth, and despite challenges, turned in a ninth-place finish.
On Sunday, Stevens clocked the ninth-quickest time in his qualifying group. He then transferred into the weekend’s second 40-lap, $11,000-to-win A-Main with a third-place result in his heat. Stevens started the main event 10th and picked up one spot to come home ninth.
The Wild West Shootout continues on Wednesday, January 10.
